Hyde Park Neighborhood

Hyde Park's proximity to the University of Texas campus makes it popular among faculty and graduate students, and young professionals working downtown find the easy commute attractive. The quintessential established neighborhood is also popular with young families who enjoy the quiet streets, neighborhood parks and welcoming sense of community thats authentically available to Hyde Park residents that seek it out.

Hyde Park is a neighborhood that comes with a sense of history, and the community contains two historic districts and several other individual historic buildings listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Hyde Park Historic District is roughly defined by West 40th Street to the south, West 45th Street to the north, Duval Street to the east, and Avenue A to the west. The district includes Victorian architecture, Tudor Revival architecture, and bungalows. The Shadow Lawn Historic District in southeast Hyde Park is roughly bounded by 38th Street, 39th Street, Avenue G, and Duval Street. The district includes several homes of historic interest from the early twentieth century.

Popular restaurants, eateries, retail and vintage shops lend the area a particularly unique vibe and sense of marching to the beat of its own drummer, a quality that makes it stand out among home buyers for its many charms.

Most of Hyde Park’s homes are established mid-century properties, but new developments have made their way into the available lots to infuse a sense of modernity into the existing community of homes.

Hyde Park Lifestyle

Hyde Park is famous for being home to one of Austin's much-praised municipal golf courses. Hancock Golf on East 41st Street was built in 1899 and is the oldest golf course in Texas, and it’s a place that golf enthusiasts seek out for a sense of tradition and history.

The many green space and parks that dot the nearby area make Hyde Park an inviting place to raise a family and gives children some freedom to roam and play safely. The community seem to enjoy the best of both worlds with quiet and serene neighborhoods that allow residents to zip in and out of Austin’s cosmopolitan centers with little hassle.

Hyde Park Schools

Austin Independent School District (AISD) serves the students that live in Hyde Park. With a district-wide enrollment of 84,500, AISD operate 129 different schools, among them are 84 elementary schools, 18 middle schools, and 16 high schools. AISD determines which schools that students will attend based on where their residence is located within a region.

Private and religious schooling options are also readily available for parents that seek alternate educational opportunities for their children. Hyde Park Baptist High School is a popular alternative for parents seeking out private education for students.
