Austin is a diverse city.  There are numerous self-contained "communities" in the city — distinct areas, each making their own contribution to the culture of the city.  Austin accommodates all of these divergent interests, prompting the unofficial city motto:  "Keep it Weird!"

Like any major city, Austin is surrounded on all sides with smaller cities, communities, and suburbs.  Each adds its own flavor to the mix of Central Texas, and brings countless additional things to do, see, and experience.

•  Sixth Street

•  Warehouse District
The Warehouse district, just west of the central business district, is the upscale cousin to 6th street.  A bit trendier and certainly more pricey, it caters to a slightly older crowd than the other downtown entertainment areas.

The busy section of Guadalupe St. that runs along the western edge of the University of Texas campus is "The Drag."  Although more mainstream than in earlier years it is traditionally home to underground bookstores, tattoo parlors, and other eclectic shops.
